I have over 40 years experience in design and application of rolling bearings. Starting with Ransome & Marles Bearing Co. Ltd at Newark on Trent, I took increasing responsibilities in the product technical function as the company evolved into RHP Bearings Ltd and later NSK-RHP Bearings Europe. Experienced in both Industrial and Automotive sectors, and having operated as a senior manager in a European Technogy Centre, I am well qualified to advise on design and productionisation of standard and bespoke bearings.
Support is also offered for the diagnosis of service problems and bearing failures, with the emphasis on seeking a permanent solution.
Since retiring from NSK-RHP ( NSK Europe) I have operated as Mechconsult with clients mostly drawn from small to medium sized engineering companies. Seminars on aspects for rolling bearings have been arranged for several organisations.
Adept at teasing out issues in both Technical Design challenges and also Business Management operations of Technology Centres, and therefore a useful independent facilitator and contributor.
Background information is kept up to date by membership of IMechE Tribology Group Committee and being their user group representative on BSI Technical Committee MCE/7 rolling bearings, and through that links to ISO Technical Committee TC4: Rolling bearings. For some years I was a member of the BRBMA Technical Committee ( on behalf of NSK-RHP) which forms the core of MCE/7 and represents the UK at ISO-TC4 global plenary meetings. I was a member of the Working Group which created BS ISO 15243:2004 Rolling Bearings-Damage and failures-Terms, characteristics and causes.
I am a Member of Council IMechE and Immediate Past Chairman of IMechE East Midlands Region and an active member of several IMechE headquarters committees. These activities enable me to maintain and develop links with fellow professional mechanical engineers.
